In-depth study of:
Dravidian people, history, language and culture; 
Migrants living in countries outside India; 
Languages and cultures influenced by Dravidian in India and elsewhere; 
Contribution of Dravidians in shaping Indian thought and culture; 
In pursuance of these objectives DLA: 
Organizes annual Conferences at various places at which scholars contribute learned papers; 
Co-ordinates and assists researches on all aspects of Dravidian studies, to the best of its capacity; 
Assists and finances scholars to undertake such studies; 
Has set up facilities for these objectives; 
Has undertaken studies in allied and similar cultures, including Bengali. 
Has undertaken a survey of the dialects in the regions of Orissa and West Bengal
                                                             ACHIEVEMENTS
ISDL has: 
Produced a 3-Volume Dravidian Encyclopaedia, covering all aspects of Dravidian People; 
Produced a 3-Volume Encyclopaedia on the Dravidian Tribes; 
Brought out a "Variorum'' edition of the Tholkappium with index;
Published a series of monographs on Grammatical Theories of the major Dravidian Languages; 
Pioneered the study of Dravidian Tribal Languages; 
Brought out "Handbooks" on Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala (two volumes); 
Established a centre for the treatment of speech defective children; 
Featured in its research journal, IJDL, articles on every aspect of Dravidian, which are now cited in most learned studies in this area, emanating from anywhere in the world of scholarship 
Initiated neuro-linguistic studies on Brain & Language.
  Has patented a Braille reader to read out Malayalam passages
